Catinaccio

Distance: 78 km

The beautiful colours of the Catinaccio at sunset are linked to an ancient legend about King Laurin and his enchanted rose garden. As the story goes, the dwarf king placed a spell on his precious roses to hide them from sight, both during the day and at night. What he overlooked, however, was the moment when day turns into night. Legend has it that this is why the peaks of the Catinaccio, known in German as the Rosengarten (rose garden), still turn brilliant shades of pink and red at sunset, creating one of the most remarkable natural spectacles in the Dolomites.
